A couple of weeks ago, I (Ben) was driving home after picking up Maia from Her Nana and Papa’s house when she decided to tell me that babies cry because they want milk.
Fairly obvious, right? Most kids her age must certainly realize that babies cry because they want milk. However, her solution to babies crying is something that really impressed me. Rather than saying that giving babies milk would stop them from crying, she very clearly stated, “if babies did not want milk, then they would not cry.”
It seems that Maia stumbled onto the idea of “attachment” without any prior knowledge of Buddhism.
