Ben and I got the opportunity to tour the new and unfinished UMNH building. How we consistently get asked to these events with CEOs, board members, and people of influence and money, we are not certain (see
Ground Breaking and
Heavy Metal Tour Part I). But, we had a great time! The building is going to be absolutely beautiful! It has a freestanding staircase, copper lining the outside, a gigantic exhibit room, unique cement texture created by pine forms, and an amazing view. The building will be run partially by solar power, which they will also use as an exhibit. The roof will be landscaped to provide a more natural view to hikers in the area. One of the best parts about going was getting to sign two pieces of copper that will hang on the museum. When the construction crew went to hang the first piece, everyone moaned because are signatures are facing the cement. No one will know that we were there! We found out later that the second piece with be displayed somewhere inside the museum. We feel lucky to be included in this fun and historic event!
