Our dear friend, Millie, fell and broke her neck one week after the big playhouse party. She is paralyzed from the abdomen down. It is very hard for us to see her this way. However, she is a very optimistic person and has been recovering well.
We have taken Maia to visit her in the hospital a few times and she is very concerned about her. She has asked a lot of questions to try to understand the situation.
When we went to visit last night, Maia was excited to make conversation with Millie and show that she understood what was going on. She starts talking to her by telling her that we brought her presents (a game and a paint by number set) because there are no toys in the hospital and that is not very fun. She goes on to say that it is sad that she has to stay there and not go home. Then, she says, "So, ummm, Millie. I hear you can walk on your hands." The way she said it was so adorable. We all laughed and talked about how strong Millie's arms will be after some practice.
Maia's understanding of this situation is incredible for a three-year-old. She is very sympathetic! We are lucky to have such a great little girl in our family!!
