New Addition

Alright, this is the old addition. Just wanted to show off his new teeth.


Here she is...

This is Lani (or Eggly as Maia calls her). We got her Saturday after Ashley suggest we visit 'the pound.' We had been considering getting a dog to keep Kona company for the last year, but we had several criteria before getting one. We wanted an older dog that would not overwhelm Kona and her disabilities, a quiet dog, a gentle dog, and a dog that was about the same size as Kona. It seemed that we got all of that in Lani. The only problem was that she had bladder surgery to remove stones the day before. Because of the surgery, she peed inside a bit. Mainly because of incontenence and secondly because she would not make a noise when she needed to go, just ran to the door. Luckily, this is getting better. We are pretty tired of cleaning up urine.
All in all, we're pretty happy to have her! Her name, Lani, comes from our old street back in Manoa: Lanihuli (we decided to go w/ a Hawaiianish theme for our dogs, I suppose). Lani, from what the pound told us, was a stray picked up in sugarhouse somewhere. She has what appears to be a coupld of scars from teeth on her face and one of her eyes is smaller than the other due to a semi-collapsed skull. It's subtle, but if you look carefully, you can see this in the pictures.
Anyway, I have to write about our experience at the pound...
we were there twice on saturday. The first time w/ the kids to check out hte dogs and then we came home to discuss the possibility of getting Lani. We decided to go pick her up when the kids were sleeping as a surprise. When we got to the pound, there were police all over. We learned a couple days later that a man brought a gun into the building demanding the release of his dog and, as a result, causing all the drama that we walked into. In addition to the police, there was a [possible] crack-head also trying to get her dog back and, in the mean time extending the amount of time everyone spent there. It was a looooooooooooooong wait but we finally brought her home (although they forgot to give us the meds and Ih ad to go back on monday to get them...ANOTHER LONG WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!).
Anyway, the two dogs seem to be getting along so I think we made a great choice!
