15 September, 2005

Today started off as most other days do for us. Ben got up early, had a quick breakfast and then got ready to go to the arboretum. He headed out the door and toward the back of the building (where we
usually park) and...

The car was missing!!

In a panic, Ben wandered the neighborhood thinking that maybe he parked somewhere that he didn't remember and this turned up nothing. The next thought was that maybe we got our car towed (the back end of it
was hanging over a 'no parking corner to here' sign so, we called the police traffic division to see if they had record of our car being towed. When asked about it, they said that we needed to call 911 and say that
it wasn't an emergency and talk to them. This seems like a complete waste of valuable phone line to us, but it's just another Hawai'i thing that doesn't quite make sense...

Anyway, we call 911, mention that it is not an emergency and get transferred. We then ask them if they have record of our car being towed. Their answer: No. Fifteen minutes later, a police officer is in front of our
building speaking with Ben about where our car was parked, which direction it was parked, etc. We filed a stolen car report, and the police were on their way. Next up, calling the insurance, filing a claim and looking online
to see how much our car was actually worth.

Today, we realized that we are very dependant on our car for everything. As we sat at home playing playstation games and watching TV, we started missing our car and all the things we had hoped to do today such as go to the beach and
watch surfers (as previously mentioned, the waves are huge due to a tropical storm and hurricane to our east). Tomorrow, the insurance claims agent is going to call us and we find out what happens next, so hopefully we'll have something
nice to report and maybe we'll have our car recovered, who knows???

Car incident number 3 since we moved here and counting...
