Another tiring day...Ashley had to work at 7:30 this morning and Ben was off to the arboretum just after that! We both worked pretty hard today, and were fairly tired when we got back. I collected 5 frogs today...FIVE! Impressed? Didn't think so...anyway, our research is well on it's way and who knows, maybe we'll actually
get something done out here...


Anyway, we don't really have much to talk about today so we figured we'd post a couple of weird Hawaii observations and see if you guys can help us answer these odd (but in our opinions, important) questions.




First, at most (if not all) road construction sites there is at least one uniformed police officer present. His/Her only visible function is to direct traffic. Back home, we have LOTS of construction and never do we have uniformed officers sitting there. Our question: Why are they really there?? Are they cheaper than putting
up a sign that says "Keep right"????


Next, we have searched all over and have failed to find a do-it-yourself carwash. You know, the kind where you pay $1.50 and wash your own car?? We've even asked people and they've replied, "There are no self service car washes in Hawaii." WHY??? Water conservation? No business? You'd think that people would want to wash their cars
since they get dirty pretty fast out here.


And finally, in driving around we've noticed metal bands wrapped around palm trees. What is their function??? They are about .3 Meters wide and sit about 1.5-2 m above the ground on the tree.




We have more but we'll save them for another post :)
