Today was a rather eventful day. This morning, on our usual hike to find frogs, we found 2 frogs and caught them. Once we got to the car, we noticed that one (the male) was carrying 2 tadpoles! We were totally shocked and couldn't believe that we caught it without knocking the tadpoles off! We then rushed home and put the frog in a tupperware
with a little water in it so that he would drop the tadpoles into the water. It was pretty cool and we are now raising the tadpoles in a tupperware so that we can release them later (we'll post about it, don't worry, but it'll take 80 or so days for them to go through metamorphosis...) We're not sure what we are going to do to avoid this in the future
as we don't want to take frogs away from their children...



Ben's mom's surgery went well (she was a little longer than expected) but she's ok now and we are happy! :) She gets released tomorrow, so if you know her, give her a call!!!





We just spent the last hour trying to feed our resident day gecko, Charlie (he's the green guy pictured below, and the plate is his personal buffet prepared by the wonderful chef, Ashley), as we found him stalking a small gecko in our house. Since we didn't want him to eat the small gecko (pictured below), we decided to try and feed him and for the first time we actually saw him eat!! We were so concerned about him not eating the baby gecko that we caught a couple bugs
and actually released them in our house! This is very atypical of us, as we've spent the past week trying to rid our house of those disgusting, invertebrate, pests, but we can't have cannibalistic geckos can we??



Speaking of invertebrate pests, the mosquito problem may have been solved! We blocked all the holes in our screen windows (we were unaware of them up until recently) and the number of bites we've received per night has significantly dropped off. Plus, it has been pretty windy and rainy lately at night and it seems that they don't come out as much during those
conditions.


Now that the mosquito problem at night seems to be pretty much under control, we just have to worry about our very own bathroom Poltergeists!!! I awoke this morning at approximately 1:00 AM to use the restroom, on my way back, I saw our ghost. I jumped and let out a little yell as she crept by me and it was, quite possibly, the most scary experience so far
in Hawaii (other than driving that is, but we'll save that for a different journal entry). I took a closer look at the ghost and realized that it was Ashley! It seems that she is frequently mistaken for a ghost (just ask Mr. Frederick Green, AKA her stepdad, who has also been scared by her wandering at night).


Anyway, just a warning to all of you who will be staying with us while we're out here: Beware! This house is haunted!
